RECAP: Hobby Bastion Tales of Aria Team Sealed

Leveraging a blazing fast start, Team You’ve got the Bye wins the Tales of Aria Team Sealed event at the Hobby Bastion, Warragul. Two lossless team members and a beautiful Cold Foil Spellbound Creepers helped them dominate the competition, going undefeated across all 5 rounds!

The Stakes are High!

After more than 4 months of planning and organising, the sunny Saturday event kicked off in Warragul, Victoria, with 4 local teams and 2 teams making the hour-long drive from Melbourne metropolitan.

Each team included three fantastic Flesh and Blood players, ready to go all in for a chance to win the top prize of three Everfest 1st Edition booster boxes!

Tales of Aria’s Three Heroes in the Spotlight!

45 minutes of deck construction would see all teams crack 12 booster packs each to build three 30 card (minimum) decks. With access to 180 cards spread across three heroes and three elements, this made for some incredibly powerful decks!

Three beautiful Cold Foils were opened - a Spellbound Creepers (Team You’ve got the Bye), a Voltaire, Strike Twice (Team No Name) and a Sutcliffe's Suede Hides (Team Nice Guys)

All but one team ended up building one deck of each hero - Lexi, Briar and Oldhim… more on that other team later 😂

Scalps were claimed early in the day, with one of our favourites, 69 Rose Street, taking an early loss to local team You’ve got the Bye in round 2. That meant that only two teams went into our short 30-minute lunch break undefeated - You’ve got the Bye, and Tastic Crew.

Speaking of Lunch Break…

With Team Nice Guys starting the day off with two losses running two Briar decks and a Lexi deck,, it was clear that something needed to change. A unique feature of the Team Sealed format, the team skipped lunch (they said they ‘weren’t hungry’) to rebuild all three of their decks!

The team ended up with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss for the remaining three rounds - so suffice to say the rebuild worked! Nice work, Nice Guys!

The Critical Round Three!

With the two undefeated teams matched up in round 3, this was sure to be a banger!

The first two matches went by fast - Tim (Briar) pushed past DDB (Lexi), and then Zayn (Briar) pulling out a nail biter against Shaun (Lexi), winning the game on 1 life with a fully blocked Ball Lightning into a Yellow fused Inspire Lightning dealing the final 3 damage he needed to take the game.

This brought it down to an Oldhim mirror between Jeremy, one of Melbourne’s most prominent Guardian players, versus Simon, the stable (sometimes) pillar of the Hobby Bastion community. The match went back and forth, with both players eventually falling to 1 life each and both decks on their last cards. Hands sweating, Titan’s Fists swinging, the game finally went the way of Simon and Team You’ve got the Bye with both players ending on the last card left in their decks!.. and all in a 30 minute round!

Can anyone catch Team You’ve got the Bye?

With only two rounds remaining, two teams would have the opportunity to spoil the undefeated run of Team You’ve got the Bye, Team No Idea and Team No Name.

After relying quite heavily on his teammates to drag him through rounds one to three, DDB’s Lexi deck finally decided to show up, smashing through his last two matches! This capped off an absolutely dominant run by Zayn, DDB and Simon of Team You’ve got the Bye, who ended up going undefeated across all three rounds!

Everyone’s a winner :)

With the rounds completed, Team You’ve got the Bye received their much-deserved prize of three Everfest booster boxes!

Every other player also received a small collection of Flesh and Blood promos, and some random draw prizes including six playmats, 2 Cold Foil Young Rhinar promos, 2 Cold Foil Iyslander promos and some fanart stickers!

CONGRATS TEAM YOU’VE GOT THE BYE - ZAYN, DDB and SIMON!
